Got salvation?

Filed under: Everyday things, Personal thoughts, Serious issues — necroswordsman @ 9:32 am

Religion. One of the most controversial subjects there is. I am a sort of atheist I suppose you could say. However, my closest friend is a Christian and he is terrific. Me and him, we’re like brothers. Now, I don’t see Religion as a bad thing, but how religion is handled? Hoho that’s different indeed.

A good religion follower should:
1)Be satisfied with his religion
2)Not try to shove it onto other people
3)Not make the religion look bad
4)Don’t get pissed at shows like Monty Python’s Life of Brian which mocked only the followers of religion and not religion itself.

I’m sure any non-religious radicals will agree with the above points. And back to Life of Brian, my friend who is a Christian, and his family who are the same, they laughed at the film. Alot. The people of religions who are stupid are the ones who go on the street and shout ‘JESUS LOVES YOU, AND YOU, AND YOU’ with a loudspeaker. For fucks sake worship who you want but don’t fucking tell us about it. And no the example is not a steriotype, I have actually seen it.

When Jehova’s witness come to my door I tell them I’m a satanist and close the door. Sometimes the door-to-door christians are very very good and one time, they said the bible didn’t mention anything about Hell. Which I thought was good.

Most religions are interpreted wrongly by their followers. And all religions are usually the same. Except for Buddhism which focuses on Siddhartha Gotama, a man who reached enlightenment. Yes, a -man-. Not a god or the son of god or anything.

I am tolerant of other peoples religions. I think it is great when you have something to believe in. But please don’t tell me about it unless I ask. And when I’m waiting for the bus, I don’t want somebody shouting into my ear about how I need to go to Christianity or I’ll burn in hell. Which is complete crap anyway.

  1. Hey Nercoswordsman with repect since I came to read your blog and you are talking about religion then I should be able to reply without being considered pushing it on you.

Those who follow the bible or try to have been asked to spread the word. That is a command to them.
Though there is a time and place for all things we must remember that a real believer is wanting to share something that could change your life for the better, in his eyes.

Since spreading the word was a command of Jesus, they are only doing what they believe is right. And not everyone will accept them. I’ve heard more athiest pushing their beliefs on others lately than Christians and they get mad when Christianity comes up.

As for hell.. its very controversial and from what I’ve read and studied.. Hell is most always interpreted from geek and hebrew as simply the grave.. Hell is where we all go.

The only time it wasn’t the grave was when Jesus was talking in a parable and it related back to a place near the dead sea which people in the old days knew it was a place of death and just outside the promise land with a breach seperating th two places.

If this is truth then its wouldn’t be bad to say we are all going to die and we will all go to the grave. The difference is that some will be risen from the grave(hell) to live forever.

Jesus went to hell(grave) and defeated death by rising again so that every man can rise again one day.

    Hope this helps without offense.

  2. I get what you’re saying, Billy. I’m fine about spreading the word of your religion. I’m fine. There’s a difference to spreading teaching, and yelling at people they’re going to hell if they don’t follow you.

  3. I agree those fear tactics just don’t work.
Jesus and John his cousin had masses of people gathered to listen to the wisdom they were teaching and not the gloom and doom message.

  4. Necroswordsman, I agree with what you are saying 100%. I only talk about my faith when asked and would hope I am a good representative of it. The worst types of religious people are the in your face ones…bad representatives.

Billy said: “I’ve heard more athiest pushing their beliefs on others lately than Christians and they get mad when Christianity comes up.”

I can agree there. But a real atheist won’t spend their time on arguing about something they don’t believe in according to an atheist I know. He sounds very similar to Necroswordsman. My friend calls these atheists “closeted agnostics”.

    Again, good post.

  5. Necro, nicely done piece! I agree with you. It seems to me that any reasonably intelligent person can find and seek their own spiritual path if they are interested in doing so, and so I’ve never quite understood the door-to-door evangelizing thing. And, just as we are all very different, spiritual pathways are not one size fits all.

    Keep the great posts coming!
